Our third day in Barcelona was blissfully free - everyone had checked the places they wanted to see off of their list, and we could all relax and enjoy the warm weather. I began the morning with a delicious breakfast at La Clandestina, a little cafe with an unsuspecting entrance that was recommended online for their fast wifi and calm workspace that was rumored to attract famous bloggers. What better place to get some work done and do some people watching! I enjoyed delicious fresh orange and pineapple juice with a bowl of fresh fruit and a croissant with homemade marmalade. So happy to find this little gem that could make job applications a little more enjoyable!
The girls came and scooped me up around lunchtime, to head to Barceloneta once again. This time, we grabbed nachos with guacamole that we had been craving since leaving the US - not quite the same, as avocado is expensive in Europe and used sparingly - but definitely better than no guacamole. We savored our food and then stretched out on the beach, soaking up the strong sun and potentially catching a nap or two in between. As the sun began to set, we finished our relaxing beach day with a pitcher of sangria and headed back home.
Once home, Liz and I traded bikinis for warm coats as we prepared to go to Sala Montjuïc, an outdoor movie theater in the former moat of Castell de Montjuïc! The moat is now a beautiful garden, with a large grassy area that hosts these outdoor events during the summer in Barcelona. The evening begins with a local band playing as people arrive and spread out their blankets, food, and wine to enjoy the show. The movies are shown in their original language, with Spanish subtitles, which works out quite nicely for native English speakers, as the majority of the films they show are in English!
I remembered this event so fondly from my time in Barcelona, that I wanted to go no matter what movie was showing - luckily, it happened to be one of Liz’s favorite movies - Django Unchained! I hadn’t seen it before, and while I was initially weary but so excited about returning to this awesome venue, I ended up really liking it! We shared a blanket, a bottle of wine, and some fresh bread and cheese and felt like true Spaniards enjoying a summer night out. (Click on the pictures below to enlarge them & page through)
